Introduction
This page documents the installation of my ham radio (and related) equipment into my 2002 Toyota Landcruiser GXL.
Existing radio equipment
The Landcruiser had a single Uniden UHF CB radio installed. The radio model is Uniden UH7760NB and is connected to an elevated feed 4dB whip. The antenna is mounted to the front bullbar.
Wiring of the vehicle
A second battery was added to the engine bay. The battery is switched for isolation and charging using a Redarc dual battery controller.
Wiring consists of the addition of a new fused power distribution system for electrical accessories and power outlets that are to be powered from the second battery. An additional distribution system (wire harness, fuse block) has been built but has not yet been installed into the vehicle. Additional power outlets inside and at the rear of the vehicle have been added that utilise Andersen style DC power connectors.
High current DC power feeds were added for the HF/VHF transceiver. The feeds run from the second battery via the fused distribution block and then into the vehicle cabin.
